about Carolyn

Creative Wednesday
I opened my art space to a small group of local artists earlier this year and it's going really well.
We get together Wednesday mornings from 10 until 12.30pm so if you're passing by please come and say hello and take a look at the amazing work being done by our new Art Group - LOOK OUT FOR OUR MARKETING EFFORTS, ADVERTISING A GROUP EXHIBITION AROUND NOVEMBER - so exciting.

Getting lost in the story evolving on my canvas, music turned up and tea turning cold - absolute bliss!

I hope you like my art and that you’ll visit me in my gallery some time.

Hi there. I'm Carolyn Watts. I'm an artist,
an illustrator and an author.

I made my first steps, into the “serious” world of art, under the guidance of Robert Campion, a brilliant and well-known Devonport Artist. There were many fun and fabulous years of laughter and learning before a move to the Bay of Plenty gave me the opportunity to venture out on my own. Running the Katikati Art Group with its sixty members, and the Katikati Art Gallery for 3 years inspired me to include opening my own gallery to my bucket list.

A move back to my Auckland roots has enabled the opportunity to open Gallery61

Opening my studio/gallery just prior to the Auckland lockdowns wasn't the best of timing, however it gave me freedom to work on my children's picture book,
'Tilly Meets a Stranger'.

My painting style is contemporary/realism. I enjoy the deep richness achieved through working in oils though I sometimes use ink as well, particularly in my smaller bird paintings.
Even the artwork for 'Tilly' was in oils.

I sell my work through Gallery61, retail shops and exhibitions.

My art, (and books), have found homes throughout New Zealand and Australia as well as in Singapore, Germany, Norway and the UK.

Exhibitions include:

Tauranga Pump House | NZ Royal Easter Show | Glendowie Annual Art Exhibition | Little Blue House Gallery, Katikati | Katikati Art Group Annual Exhibition 2008 – 2019 (Past President) | Waikino Exhibition | Waihi Food Festival | The Carlton Gallery, Katikati | People’s Gallery, Tauranga| Howick Winter Exhibition, Uxbridge Centre.

If my flag's out then I'm open, otherwise, by appointment.
