My adorable little grandson reading his very own personalised copy and counting the number of ladybirds, butterflies and caterpillars.

Three Little Wax-eyes Original Painting

I had lots of fun playing around with these little fellows. My brushes took on a life of their own, creating their expressive faces and giving each wee bird its own character.

29 pages plus background graphics. Phew!

My painting of three little wax-eyes is the inspiration behind a children’s book written by author Kinsa Hays. Kinsa wrote a poem about the Three Little Wax-eyes whilst she was manning our joint exhibition (Odyssey), in The People’s Gallery in Tauranga.

With encouragement from members of The Tauranga Writers Group, the poem morphed into a picture book for young children.
With Kinsa’s writing skills and my painting and graphic design experience it was obvious that Kinsa and I should join forces to put the story together. Our book has been translated to Te Reo
by Justin Kereama.

Overcoming anxiety and determination to succeed became the backbone of the story,
with a twist in the tale.
